If there is someone whose journal you read you would love to have an epic, sweaty, damn near legendary, 12 hour fuckathon with, post this same exact sentence in your journal.

psych observation [18 May 2004|10:02am]
When waiting for a result of some kind (exam, job, application to join His Infernal Master's Legions of Dominion), I've noticed I tend to fantasise about the outcome I don't expect.

Mine are ok, but could be better.

Noel Engel [15 Mar 2004|12:40pm]
Scott Walker appears to be heading towards getting a new album out. If it's anything like as odd as Tilt, I'm going to enjoy it immensely.

The man is a hero. Despite owning one of the all-time great voices, he happily sits around in cafes doing absolutely nothing until once every eight years he really really wants to make an album, so he does. That's class.

If you ever finish a very long and tricky job and are looking forward to all the free time you'll have now it's over, just remember that there are almost certainly a gazillion things left over, put off and set aside, just waiting to leap out and guzzle up all those supposedly endless hours of recuperation.

feh.

Hah! [06 Dec 2003|03:51pm]
I was never convinced my what they taught me about introversion/extraversion when I was studying psychology. It seems to me to be far more complex than a simple linear cline, at least for most of the people I know well. Parties, public speaking, video cameras, meeting new people, interviews, acting all bring out unpredictable reactions. I've known professional actors who hated socialising, party animals terrified of being photographed and it all seems to be connected more with associations than character.

Personally, I like being on stage, run from parties but also love them and being an utter wimp in many ways, I'm hugely proud of the fact that I just managed to negotiate, in a foreign language that I don't know very well, to buy some lovely beer glasses in a fairly dingy bar. I almost didn't do it, being scared they'd say no or not understand and that's my own limits pushed...

just deserts [29 Oct 2003|03:39pm]
Well, after an hour of heavily commenting friends, communities and complete strangers, I have received precisely one follow-up. From a stranger. I know, I know, I should stay in the loop more.

You know, if I spent less time commenting, I might actually write the occasional entry here. Still, I haven't visited LJ for about three weeks, so it wouldn't make much difference.

Food.

I don't think I'm a great cook, but I'm starting to realise that I can actually do better than about half the restaurants I visit. OK, I have all evening to make one dish whereas they have slightly different constraints, but even so, it's either:
(a) a nice thought that makes me feel better about myself
(b) a bloody disgrace that I've wasted all that money on overcooked, underspiced, badly-presented muck.

Now, am I feeling positive?

Can't honestly believe I'm posting this but...

I found this really interesting, although it's obviously biased towards one side of the debate. err... it's about periods and why it might not be 'unnatural' to stop them. Feel free to burn me at the stake for even mentionning it. I know, as a boy, I'm supposed to be either disgusted, ignorant or disinterested in menstruation. And before I read this, I didn't actually think there was anything that interesting about it.

But I sure don't have the courage to post it to http://www.livejournal.com/community/menstrualhut/

running [25 Sep 2003|07:14pm]
ooh - 130km relay race with four of us in the team equals about 30km each. not quite a marathon, but split over four legs, it does mean my legs kind of resisted the idea of starting again each time, thinking that they'd had enough for one day

i'm a little tired now, natch

ouch

stairs are a problem.

theatre [19 Sep 2003|11:42am]
Saw two theatrical things recently. Well, saw more than that, cos I see a lot of theatre, but two were... memorable.

There was a French group (this lot: http://costes.org/virs01.htm - warning contains nudity and blasphemy) who were clearly working hard on shocking as many people as possible, but sadly just managed to bore us. Trust me - it's possible to have two men and one woman on stage naked, apparently (I was towards the back) wanking, pissing, burning pubic hair, sticking things in their arses, performing oral sex with each other and an image of the virgin Mary and STILL have the audience talking amongst themselves rather than paying attention. Dreadful.

Then last night, half a dozen Polish blokes dressed as Santa walked around the city singing songs and giving out presents with an audience of arty types, bored teenagers, random street people, beery lads and people who just happened to walk past. Using a stepladder, they climbed into balconies, onto buses and shops and joked whoever they met. This is not a friendly city - it has a reputation as dirty, ugly and dangerous. There wasn't a security guard or police office in sight. The crowd started off bemused, but by the end the drunks and the guys in death metal T-Shirts were singing along to 'Jingle Bells' and the festival bores were throwing fake snow at the cool teenage girls. Astonishing.

I doubt the two I'm seeing tonight will be any better or worse than these, but I'll let you know if they are.

beach problem [15 Sep 2003|02:23pm]
Honestly, all these over-tanned, over-skinny beach people lying around in shorts or bikinis or topless or nothing at all, do they know how shallow they look? Like those two near Korcula, wearing only striped bikini bottoms, pulled down several inches so they could compare waxes. You can just tell they were both complete morons, with no taste or interest in any real life and the blonde one especially with her big nipples, probably a spoiled little Daddy's girl and the last thing I'd want to do is make hot sweaty love to her in an upstairs room...

Holidays, huh. Just as full of moral dilemmas as real life.

in case you were wondering [07 Jul 2003|04:42pm]
I've got just the biggest project on at work at the moment. If it goes right, I'm the king, but for the next two months, I'm counting on about three minutes free time per week. And two of those will be spent doing the washing-up. So, though I don't write any entries anyway, what's changed is that I won't have time to read, comment or even check my personal email. Sorry! I'll miss you!
